“Living authentically”

I was invited to speak about the importance of living our authentic self as part of the “Uncover the Human” podcast. In the words of co-host Alex Cullimore: “How much potential can we unlock when we feel and use the inherent connection between mind and body? Luckily, there are people in the world like Matthias Hartmann, who founded embodhi to connect our physicality with our authentic selves. In this episode of Uncover the Human, he delivers powerful examples about how to feel and live as our true selves, driving a compelling case for accessing deeper levels of ourselves for our work and personal relationships to thrive. Do you listen to your physical body? If so, how? If not, why not?

“The artist and his critic: how to deal with rejection”

An article I wrote on the subject of “How to deal with rejection” published by “Art Cinema”. While the target audience are artists, the principles are valid for anybody. https://artcinema.art/the-artist-and-his-critic/

“Fear of public speaking”

I was interviewed by Amy Carroll for her weekly radio-show on VoiceAmerica on the subject of “Fear of public speaking”. To my mind that fear does not exist since it has nothing to do with a public. It is a fear of rejection which undermines the trust in yourself. I talk about how rejection causes social pain and how our body prepares us to avoid feeling pain. Fear prepares the body to fight, flee or freeze. However, while speaking in public we can’t fight or flee, so we freeze. In the second half of the interview I cover how we believe that ‘fear blocks us’ while the opposite is true: we block the fear (and all other emotions we tend to suppress). Those suppressed emotions then show up in the body (often in the form of tension). I then talk about what I do in my sessions with clients which aims for a non-judgemental acceptance and integration of all aspects of who we are, including the so called “negative” emotions. That acceptance makes you feel whole. And in terms of public speaking, it makes you fearless.
